The European Monitoring Center for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) is one of the European Union's decentralized agencies. Founded in 1993, inaugurated in Lisbon in 1995, the EMCDDA is the hub of drug-related information in the European Union. It provides the EU and its Member States with a factual overview of European drug problems and a common information framework to support the drugs debate, to monitor drug abuse responses and drug legislation. EMCDDA it is the central source of comprehensive information on drugs and drug addiction in Europe. Its main goal is improvement of the comparability of drug information in the EU. To achieve this, the EMCDDA coordinates and relies on a network of some 30 national monitoring centers (Reitox network) to gather and analyze country data according to common data-collection standards and tools. The results of this national monitoring process are fed to the Lisbon center for analysis and are ultimately released in the Annual report on the state of the drugs problem in Europe — one of its many outputs. National representative of this specialized agency is National Monitoring Center for Drugs at Slovak Republic Government Office, monitoring the situation in field of drug abuse at national level, working also as one of 30 REITOX monitoring centers.
